This is the best time of the year for skiing in the alps and across eastern Europe. In the cities, the weather is predominately cold, grey and wet, but that means its the cheapest time to go, and you’ll find the fewest crowds.
Best for: Budget travel across Europe + visiting the Alps and mountains for winter sports.

The first half of March feels like January/February. However the weather drastically improves from mid-March into April. Trees turn green, flowers bloom, and the mood in the cities lift. It is ever so slightly pricier than winter, but still significantly cheaper than summer.
Best for: Budget-conscious city trips to enjoy smaller crowds compared to summer and better weather than winter.

Temperatures sit at around 22-26ยฐC in Southern Europe and 20ยฐC+ in Central Europe making it perfect for early summer weather without the crowds. May also offers much lower prices than any other warmer month. It is perfect for budget-conscious travellers who crave warmer weather.
Best for: Travellers who want warmer weather but don’t have to pay the high peak summer prices.

The weather sits around 20-30ยฐC+ almost everywhere in Europe. Days are long, festivals begin, cities liven up, beaches are buzzing, and mountain trails finally start to open up.
Best for: June is the best time for nature trips in the mountains and beaches across in Europe before the peak summer crowds arrive.

July/August has some of the best weather of the year with temperatures ranging from 22-30ยฐC+ everywhere. This in turn means it is the busiest time and most expensive. Hotels, accommodation and even transport costs almost double compared to winter. Many destinations – especially popular beach spots – can get chaotic.
Best for: Escaping into the countryside and exploring hidden gems.

In September, most of Europe still experiences warm 20ยฐC+ (warmer in the South) temperatures โ especially at the beginning of the month. Beaches, mountains and cities also quiet down, and prices slowly start to drop.

Cold, wet and grey winter weather finally settles in. However, you still get some beautiful Autumn foliage at the start of November, and then the world-famous Christmas markets all over Europe in December.

If you like warm weather, the best times to visit are May/June and September. You get fewer crowds, and significantly lower prices compared to peak summer (JulyโAugust).
January and February. Flights, accommodation, and transport are all at their lowest. The trade-off is cold, grey weather โ but if youโre a winter sport lover itโs a great time to go.
