Go Look Outside
Most young people want to travel, but almost no one tells you how to actually start — how to afford it, where to go first, or what solo travel is really like when you’ve never left home before. Go Look Outside is your starting point: real travel tips for young adults, step-by-step guides, and honest stories from someone who first left home to travel at 17 — and has no plans to slow down.
Everyone tells you to follow the safe path — university, career, settle down. But what if the best thing you can do after high school or university is travel? Whether you’re looking for gap year advice, budget travel tips, or step-by-step help planning your first trip to Europe, Go Look Outside has you covered.
Who Am I to Say What to do?

I’m Jack, and I started travelling straight after high school – not because I had life figured out, but for the exact opposite reason: I was lost. While everyone around me was stuck in their 9-to-5s or studying, I booked a one-way ticket to Europe with a backpack and $10,000, hoping that moving there would help me understand who I am.
After living in Europe for almost five years and visiting over 20 countries, I can say this: travel didn’t fix everything, but it taught me to trust myself, make my own decisions, and build a life on my own terms.
Who is GoLookOutside for?
GoLookOutside is for anyone young who wants to travel but doesn’t know where to start. More specifically:
- High school or university students thinking about a gap year or first solo trip
- Budget travellers planning their first backpacking trip to Europe
- Young adults looking for working holiday visas
- High schoolers looking for exchange programs in Europe
- Anyone in their late teens or twenties who feels stuck and thinks travel might be the answer
Why Travel When You’re Young?

It’s simple: travelling teaches you things no classroom, textbook, or lecture ever could.
There are feelings, situations, and life lessons that can only come from stepping outside your comfort zone and seeing the world for yourself.
And in my opinion, there is no better time to do it than when you’re young.
For the first 17–18 years of our lives, we’re stuck in the same routine. Travelling breaks that. It builds independence, confidence, and a sense of who you actually are — things you can’t learn from staying home. Whether it’s a gap year, a summer backpacking trip, or a working holiday, travel in your teens and twenties shapes you in ways nothing else can.
Why is GoLookOutside Different?
When you search “travel tips for young adults” on Google, the first three pages are almost entirely tour companies trying to sell you a pre-packaged “adventure.”
And as appealing as those itineraries might sound, is it really an adventure if every hour is planned out for you?
The truth is, there’s very little out there for young solo travellers who want to plan a trip on their own. That’s exactly why GoLookOutside exists.
This site is built to help you do it independently — to plan your own route, make your own mistakes, and create your own stories.
